In this issue we give you a personal insight into our man on the ground in Durban, and ask him how Key Projects can add value to your projects. Our latest project to go to ground is Mayfair on the Lake in Umhlanga, another green building adding to our learning of practical green investment. We are also now part of the Twitter generation and seeing the benefits of this social media tool in business.

We congratulate Wayne and his wife Brigette for recently completing their second Two Oceans marathon with Wayne also embarking on his first Comrades later this month. While he was getting his breath back we asked him a few questions…

What are the obstacles to a turnaround in the property sector,
how would you address them?
With the world in so much turmoil in terms of financial & natural disaster, I see Government spend in sustainable local projects as the key to a turnaround in our sector, however, there has to be the political will for this to happen. Having developed a strategy for sustainable housing delivery, I have found first hand that the agendas of politicians & local authority decision makers are not congruent with the needs of people.
With the upcoming local elections, what sage advice would you give to your elected Local Councillor?
Don't completely ignore the needs of the rates base.
Why do existing clients entrust their projects to you in KZN?
I believe that one of my strengths is that I'm able to bring stability to a job. I'd like to think that both contractor & client trust my judgement.
What differentiates Key Projects from our competitors?
Our values of honesty, integrity & fairness. Our experience grounded in raw construction, which assists us in guiding the project around the pitfalls that plague the construction activity of a project. Our understanding of development challenges, having worked for a development company.

Construction started early in 2011 on the second of three phases of this multifunctional, environmentally-friendly development.

Greg de Klerk, who heads up Growthpoint Properties’ Durban office says: "We made it a priority to identify ways to ensure energy efficiency". "Our corporate philosophy is to give preference to working with professionals that are dedicated to green building practices."

Having played an instrumental role in the success of the first phase, Key Projects is now playing a vital role in facilitating learning for continuous improvement on the Mayfair on the Lake project. The gaining impetus of green buildings brings with it new challenges where we are learning how to adapt and improve how we respond to our client`s increasing demands for environmental value in their investments.

Key Projects is drawing on its increasing knowledge in delivering green buildings to become the pre-eminent "green project managers". We are creating a blueprint that will provide a practical tool to guide building owners in maximising their green investment.
