PFNonwovens Textile Production Plant
The PFNonwovens Atlantis facility represents a major international investment in South Africa’s manufacturing sector and forms part of one of the leading spunmelt nonwoven fabric producers in the EMEA region. Located within the Atlantis industrial precinct, the development strengthens the Western Cape’s industrial base while creating significant employment and economic opportunities for the surrounding communities.
The project involved the delivery of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility supporting advanced production technologies and long-term industrial growth. Beyond its economic impact, the development has played a meaningful role in local skills development, job creation, and community upliftment, with a strong focus on empowering local residents and increasing opportunities for women entering the construction and manufacturing sectors.
Initially appointed as Principal Agent under a design-and-build procurement model, Key Projects successfully restructured the procurement and contracting strategy when commercial negotiations reached an impasse. This approach reduced projected construction costs from R220 million to R145 million while maintaining the full project scope and aligning delivery with the client’s budget objectives.
Through proactive stakeholder engagement, project leadership, and community collaboration, the facility was successfully delivered while generating lasting social and economic benefits for Atlantis and the broader Western Cape region.
